Every year Toronto’s beaches host the Winter Stations Design Competition, a public art exhibition inviting four designers and three students to transform existing lifeguard stations into incredible installations. This year’s theme, Freeze/Thaw, asked contestants to respond to “the changing climactic conditions and transitions of the Toronto winter.” These unique winter stations add vibrant colour to the beaches and were complemented by a community fireplace by Canadian architect Douglas Cardinal. These installations are open until March 19. Visit for a closer look at this year’s winners.
